- Hosted in Australia, on AWS
- Single sign-on for firms, universities and libraries
- Launched August 2026
J W Carter Publishing is the independent legal publisher of Emeritus Professor J W Carter's work, including Carter on Contract - one of Australia's leading contract law resources, first published more than twenty years ago and cited in decisions of every Australian superior court, including the High Court - and the Contract and Commercial Law Review journal. Red Crow Digital designed and built Carter Online, its subscription platform.
Challenge
A looseleaf classic without a home
For most of its life, Carter on Contract was published by LexisNexis Butterworths as a two-volume looseleaf service; published independently, it needed a home of its own online. Practitioners use it as a working reference - they need to search it, cite it and trust that it's current - and firms, universities and libraries need to give many people access without sharing logins.
Solution
Built around the book
- A publishing model built around the book's parts and chapters and the journal's volumes, issues and articles, so the editorial team publishes updates themselves
- Fast full-text search across the book and journal, with highlighted results and PDF export of chapter sections
- Subscriptions with Stripe payments, auto-renewal and reminders, alongside invoiced and complimentary accounts
- Organisation accounts with SAML single sign-on, email-domain rules, user caps and login audit logs, and account holders who manage their own users
- Protection for subscriber-only content
Results
Searchable, citable, online
- Both titles online, with new chapters and journal content added since launch
- One platform for individual practitioners and whole institutions
