Choice Aged Care is Australia’s leading professional-services provider to the aged-care sector, delivering clinical pharmacist and medication services to aged-care facilities nationwide. Red Crow Digital is their primary software partner, building and actively developing the platforms that run those services - including MediBUDDY, the clinical platform behind their pharmacist offering.
The challenge
Choice Aged Care delivers clinical pharmacist services - medication management reviews, quality-use-of-medicines programs and benchmarking - to aged-care facilities across the country. Work at that scale generates a large amount of clinical data, and depends on software that can schedule reviews, capture interventions and outcomes, produce clinical reports, and get the right information to facilities and pharmacists at the right time. Off-the-shelf tools could not do this the way their teams and clients need - and the platforms had to keep evolving as the business and its clinical programs grew.
The solution
- MediBUDDY - the clinical platform behind Choice Aged Care’s pharmacist services, supporting medication management reviews (RMMRs), clinical reporting and benchmarking, and quality-use-of-medicines resources for aged-care facilities. Red Crow has significantly extended MediBUDDY over the engagement, adding substantial new functionality and continually improving it - not just keeping it running - hosted and supported on Microsoft Azure
- A bespoke referrals and administration portal - a custom Python and Django application on AWS (EC2, RDS, S3 and CloudFront) handling referral generation and processing, secure file upload, and patient and carer consent capture, with deployment automation and ongoing security patching
- Reporting, data management and analysis - purpose-built reporting developed in Django, replacing older tooling to give the business richer, clearer insight into its data

- MediBUDDY is used across around 1,150 aged-care facilities
- More than 3,500 registered users on MediBUDDY
- The referrals portal manages more than 3,000 referrals every month
- Thousands of patient and carer consent records captured
- Red Crow Digital is now Choice Aged Care’s primary software partner, across both platforms
- Both platforms run in production with continuous development and support since 2024, across AWS and Azure
