PlayyON is a sports management platform used by organisations around the world to run teams, events, tournaments and registrations. Red Crow Digital built the platform from the ground up, and designed and built its mobile app.
Challenge
Game day changes fast
Sport rarely sticks to the schedule. Games move, venues change, weather cancels a round and results come in on the day - and a website or an inbox isn't where players, parents and fans look when they're heading to a game. PlayyON needed an app that put new events, team news, schedules and results in members' pockets, with a notification as soon as something was posted - and it had to stay in sync with a mature web platform.
Solution
One app, iOS and Android
- Push notifications that open straight to the relevant event, team or post
- A social feed, upcoming events, schedules with standings and results, and team and organisation pages
- Photo, video and result posts, and connections and follows
- A new, secure mobile API on PlayyON's Django platform, with token authentication and a shared API schema that keeps the app and platform in step
- Family accounts, so parents manage their children's profiles and approve requests, with block, report and hide tools
Results
Updates straight to members' phones
- New events and team posts reach players' and parents' phones as soon as they're published
- Both apps maintained from one codebase, alongside the website, with regular releases since launch
