XTi (Xiant Technologies) is a light technology company based in Greeley, Colorado. Its PULSE+ is a smart biolight that fits a standard lamp and plays pulsed light recipes XTi designs for relaxation, sleep and focus. Red Crow Digital built the PULSE+ companion apps for iPhone and Android, and the cloud platform behind them.
Challenge
Reliable control over Bluetooth
The PULSE+ is only as good as the app that runs it. People needed to pair a lamp in a couple of minutes, choose a light recipe and control it reliably over Bluetooth - and XTi needed a way to keep improving lamps after they had shipped.
Solution
Native apps and a cloud platform
- Matching SwiftUI and Jetpack Compose apps that control the lamp directly over Bluetooth Low Energy
- Pairing by QR code or serial number, several lamps at once, intensity, a session timer and recipe selection
- Over-the-air firmware updates, with recovery for a lamp caught mid-update
- Passwordless email sign-in, a profile that tailors the recipes on offer, and an offline mode
- A platform that registers lamps, versions recipes and firmware, sends in-app announcements, reports on usage and syncs customers from XTi's Shopify store
